Mission statement
Lyme Bay Ladies recognises that the environment is important to our business, our members and our community. We have a responsibility to manage our environmental and social impacts carefully, including meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance and positive impact on society, as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods, with regular review points. We will encourage members, suppliers and venues to do the same.
Policy aims
We endeavour to:
• Comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements.
• Continually improve and monitor environmental performance.
• Incorporate environmental considerations into business decisions.
• Increase members awareness of this policy and provide training where appropriate.
Policy priorities
1. Carbon footprint
• We will measure and report the carbon footprint of our business on an annual basis using a simple carbon footprint calculator.
• We will continue to seek ways of radically reducing our carbon footprint.
2. Energy and Water
• We will seek to reduce the amount of water & energy used as much as possible.
• We already use LED lighting in the home office.
• We will choose a green energy tariff.
• Lights and electrical equipment will be switched off when not in use.
• Heating will be adjusted with energy consumption in mind.
• We will provide a members guide for home office use.
3. Purchasing Goods and Services
• In making decisions about the purchasing of goods & services, we will routinely and systematically take into account the environmental impact of those materials and their supply chain.
• We will favour more environmentally friendly and efficient products wherever possible.
• We will adopt a preferred supplier policy.
• We will support ‘Buy Local’ schemes.
4. Transportation
• We will promote the use of car sharing to members meetings.
• We will choose venues that are local to members and avoid long distance travel.
• We will adopt a travel policy, encouraging the use of public transport where possible.
• We have already transitioned to an electric vehicle, and encourage members to explore electric.
5. Waste and recycling
• We will run a paperless office and use digital where possible.
• We will re-use and recycle as much waste material as possible.
• We will encourage reduction in use of single-use plastics.
• We will use biodegradable cleaning products wherever possible.
6. Company Administration
• We will use green banking for company administration.
• We will explore green investments and funds.
• We will promote green finance to our community members.
• We will offer Free Membership to Local Charities.
Our Environmental Management System
We have developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure we meet the requirements of this Sustainability Policy.
We will update this policy annually, in consultation with members where necessary.
